School enrollment is one of the busiest times of the year for teachers, parents, and students alike. Tedious forms, long queues, and endless hours of waiting are the usual scenes you’ll get during this period. However, these things changed when the global Covid-19 outbreak reached our country. How will we be able to proceed with our daily lives without leaving our homes? How does this “new normal” affect our current education system? Luckily, technology has helped us somehow get things done online. Now, even schools use it to resume the enrollment process along with other school activities. As schools have begun readying for this big shift, learn more about how CIIT aims to keep up through online school enrollment.
Coping Up with the “New Normal”
The year 2020 gave us a rough start. Just when we thought we’d be able to start a new decade with a bang, a pandemic hit the world and left everyone surprised. This started by the tail end of 2019, when an unknown disease was reported in Wuhan, China. And early this year the said disease became an outbreak and was declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern on 30 January 2020 (source: WHO).
With this outbreak, most countries imposed guidelines for their citizens to stay at home in hopes of slowing the spread of the disease while the research and science communities searched for a vaccine. Here in the Philippines, enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) took effect on March 16, 2020. This meant that most social activities, such as going to school or work, became restricted.
With this unprecedented event, public and private offices initiated ways to proceed with their usual routines without staying outside. Firms started to allow their staff to work from home and students finished their semester through online classes. These perhaps became the new normal for most of us and a way to continue life during these trying times.
However, ECQ still affects our current education system. School enrollment is supposed to resume in a few weeks, but the situation is still bleak. For this reason, schools now accept online registrations to get students enrolled and progress even while at home. This way, they will be able to accept enrollees and prepare for the next school year without risking everyone’s safety.
