The CIIT Gymnasium turned into a vibrant cultural arena last August 9, 2025, as the Physical Education Department hosted the Culminating Activity: International Folk Dance.
This annual PATHFIT 3 event gave students the chance to explore the beauty and meaning of traditional dances from across the globe, offering both a creative challenge and an unforgettable cultural exchange. With the support of Anytime Fitness Tomas Morato and F2N Marketing, and the dedication of the PE faculty, the celebration came alive with color, rhythm, and energy.

Dancing Through Borders
Every section under the PATHFIT 3 program was assigned a folk dance from a different country. Over the semester, students immersed themselves in the music, history, and choreography of their assigned traditions, then brought them to life on stage.
The performances featured Greece’s Sirtaki, Mexico’s Jarabe, Korea’s Buchaechum, Spain’s Ispanakan Par, Japan’s Bon Odori, Africa’s Tamasha, Colombia’s Cumbia, France’s La Poulido Gemo, Malaysia’s Joget, Thailand’s Ramwong, Indonesia’s Gaba Gaba, Italy’s Tarantella, Russia’s Kalinka, China’s Yangge, and the USA’s Square Dance. From the graceful fan dances of Korea to the lively spins of Italy’s Tarantella, each number reflected authenticity in costume, choreography, and props that captured the essence of its culture.

A Showcase of Skill and Spirit
The main dance competition ran from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM and was judged by a panel of two external and three internal judges. While the competition inspired a healthy sense of challenge, the greater achievement was in the unity, confidence, and cultural literacy gained by every participant.
The audience composed of fellow students, faculty, and staff was an active part of the experience. Cheers, applause, and waves of encouragement filled the gym, turning the event into a shared celebration of creativity and heritage.
Recognizing Outstanding Performances
The event reached its peak with the announcement of the winners, celebrating the talent, creativity, and hard work poured into every performance. Russia emerged as the Champion, captivating the judges and audience alike with a dynamic and masterfully executed routine. Malaysia and Korea tied for Second Place, delivering polished, engaging performances that impressed with their precision and cultural authenticity. Africa took Third Place, earning thunderous applause for their energetic and crowd-winning presentation.

Special awards highlighted individual strengths that made certain performances stand out. Korea was honored with Best in Costume for their intricately designed attire that beautifully represented their heritage, while Indonesia received Best in Introduction for their compelling and immersive stage opening that immediately drew the audience into their performance.

More Than Just a Performance
The International Folk Dance Culminating Activity was more than a showcase of talent. It was a creative learning environment that fostered cultural appreciation through authentic representation, teamwork in perfecting choreography, and discipline in balancing preparation with academic life.
The response from both participants and spectators was overwhelmingly positive, with many calling it one of the most engaging and educational events of the semester.
Through events like the International Folk Dance, CIIT continues to weave creativity, culture, and community, empowering CIITzens to express themselves and connect with the world through art.
