CIIT Senior High School embraces traditional practices of artistic expression along with innovative approaches to develop our students as industry-ready creatives. To exercise their artistic flair on the canvas, CIIT’s Grade 11 MVA and Animation students produced landscape paintings using the style and techniques of Impressionism.
The landscape painting was a collaborative performance task between Creative Industries 1 and Filipino Identity in the Arts classes, led by teachers Mr. Ariel Ponce and Ms. Lhesliefea Santos. The hands-on learning of Impressionism aimed to provide students with a better understanding of the art movement and an opportunity to brush up their creative skills.
Even in small canvases, CIITeens were able to showcase their vast imagination of landscapes. Through seemingly natural lighting and bright colors to present images of greeneries and clear skies, students got to practice some Impressionist features, which are famously reflected in the paintings of Claude Monet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, and Camille Pissarro.
Impressionism encourages painting amidst nature, capturing fleeting moments of light and color. An artist paints the scenery there and then, hence making an artwork that displays their “impression” of the scene. Although CIITeens were not able to go out to a real scenic location due to the unpredictable weather, the artistic exercise still gave our students an educational experience beyond the classroom.
Both seasoned and novice painters in the classes were delighted to show their dexterity and enthusiasm to learn further about this visual art. Looking ahead, CIIT senior high students can anticipate more exciting opportunities to expand their imagination and craft in diverse art media and movements.
