CIIT students place third at the Sportshouse App Challenge

Third year students led by Jim Mikael Carpio, Game Development; Rex Sueno, MMA Graphic Design; and Khalil Albuainain, MMA 3D Visualization; won third place at the recently held Sportshouse App Challenge joined by 16 competing teams from various universities and colleges. The presentation and awarding of the top 4 teams from among the 6 finalists were held on March 20, 2015 at the Oakwood Premier in Ortigas.

Sportshouse, one of the leading retail stores of sports equipment and accessories in the Philippines, launched the app development contest in partnership with Department of Science and Technology (DOST) in December 2014. It was opened to college students and was an opportunity to pave their way to technological innovation via an integrated app utility.

With a 2-week time for design and development, CIIT team together with their coach and IT Head, Mr. Joel Aldea, worked on the concept of physical fitness through workout and exercise. Entitled, “Sportshouse Trainer” the app aims to aid in promoting a physically healthy body through an effective fitness program which includes daily challenges and objectives. It is “the app that helps you help yourself”, as the team puts it.

Jim, the team captain, worked as the developer of the team handling all coding and programming involved. Rex was the overall UI designer while Khalil designed for all 3D graphics and models. “We learned a lot from working together as a team. We realized that through competitions like these, we are given the opportunity and proper exposure to the career that we might take after college. This is a stepping stone to our dreams”, Rex said in an interview with CIIT.
