CIIT Students Shine with Bronze in StartUp QC Competition

One of the core missions of CIIT College of Arts and Technology is to empower students through industry-ready, values-driven, and accessible education. We strive to provide our CIITzens with opportunities to explore and enhance their skills.

That’s why when we learned about the upcoming StartUp QC Program: Business Plan Competition for the Student Category, organized by the Quezon City Local Economic and Investment Promotions Office (LEIPO), we recognized it as the perfect platform for our students to display their talents and entrepreneurial endeavors.

Pioneering Innovation and Entrepreneurship in Quezon City

The StartUp QC Program marked the groundbreaking initiative by a local government unit aimed at advancing innovation, entrepreneurship, and supporting the local startup community in Quezon City. Its primary focus was to unite students from all colleges or universities to nurture business ideas through interactive activities, lectures, mentoring, and networking opportunities.

Our team of entrepreneurial students, comprising Valerie Michelle Aceron, Jemimah Hazel Peraja De Ocampo, Shane Lorelie Salen, Dyn Justin Kyle Kudo, and Philip Juntillo Jr., achieved bronze in a competitive field despite being the sole representatives from CIIT to participate. This was also CIIT’s first entry in the competition, competing against established institutions such as Ateneo de Manila and others.

To win the competition, the business idea needs to effectively address the city’s needs and demands. Our skilled students developed the City Tour app, an ingenious online platform dedicated to city tour activities, experiences, and services.

It utilizes a point-based system and gamification approach to engage visitors in a deeper exploration of Philippine history and culture. By fostering community spirit and promoting collaboration in cultural immersion, the City Tour project aims to revolutionize how people perceive and appreciate Quezon City’s heritage.

Each month and on special occasions, the app will release “quests” for exploring museums and cultural hubs. These quests include scavenger hunts, historical quizzes, and more. Users can also use the app to navigate Quezon City, discover local cuisine, activities, and vibrant marketplaces with a city mapper function. A point-based system allows users to earn points redeemable for deals like amusement tickets, discount vouchers, and accommodations.

Congratulations to the students!

Looking forward, CIIT will continue to support initiatives that empower our students to make meaningful impacts in their communities and beyond. We are grateful for the opportunity to participate in programs like StartUp QC, which not only showcase our students’ talents but also strengthen our ties with the local government and business sectors.
