The Global Game Jam 2025 unfolded at CIIT from February 28 to March 2, 2025, in partnership with the Tech Department, UnPause – CIIT Tech Department Student Representatives and Global Game Jam. This year’s theme — Bubbles — challenged participants to design and develop a playable game within a limited timeframe, combining creativity, strategy, and technical expertise.
The Creative Process
The event commenced with the Theme Reveal on Day 1, sparking an immediate burst of ideas among participants. Teams composed of CIIT students, alumni, and game developers from other schools gathered to brainstorm game concepts inspired by the theme. The interpretation of “Bubbles” varied widely — some envisioned physics-based puzzle games where players navigated fragile orbs through challenging environments, while others explored deeper narratives, using bubbles as symbols of fleeting moments or delicate relationships.
For three days, the CIIT campus transformed into a creative hub. Artists worked on character designs and game assets, programmers built game mechanics and interactions, and designers crafted user experiences — all in a race against time. The atmosphere was intense yet collaborative, with every team striving to turn their concepts into playable prototypes.
Game Showcase: Ideas Brought to Life
The Game Showcase on Day 3 was the event’s highlight, giving teams the opportunity to present their projects. The range of games reflected not only the participants’ creativity but also their adaptability in working under pressure. Some games impressed with their intricate mechanics and smooth gameplay, while others stood out for their emotional storytelling and unique design elements.
Adding depth to the showcase was Ian Martirez, Head of Quality Assurance at Amber Studio, who served as a judge. His feedback focused on the importance of balancing creativity with functionality, encouraging teams to refine their mechanics, enhance user experience, and think critically about how their games could evolve beyond the jam.
Lessons Beyond the Code
The Global Game Jam 2025 was more than just a test of game development skills — it was a learning experience for all involved. Participants sharpened their creativity by developing and iterating game concepts under tight time constraints. Many expanded their technical knowledge, exploring new game engines and tools, while also strengthening their teamwork by collaborating with artists, designers, and developers.
Time management emerged as a crucial skill, as teams navigated the challenge of building a working game within 48 hours. The fast-paced nature of the event pushed them to prioritize tasks, solve problems efficiently, and adapt to unexpected changes — skills that are invaluable not only in game development but in any creative field.
The event also fostered a sense of community. Participants connected with fellow creators, exchanging ideas and forming new friendships. The jam provided a space not only to create games but to build relationships and networks that could lead to future collaborations.
Looking Ahead
The Global Game Jam 2025 was not just a competition — it was a celebration of creativity, technology, and community. It reinforced CIIT’s commitment to nurturing innovative talent by providing a space where art and technology intersect. As the community looks forward to the Global Game Jam 2026, CIIT remains dedicated to fostering an environment where creators can push boundaries, collaborate, and bring their boldest ideas to life.
To all participants, thank you for sharing your passion and innovation. We look forward to welcoming you back next year as we continue redefining possibilities through art and technology.
