An artist’s journey is not always a walk in the park. It is not uncommon for creative juices to dry up, which can be challenging for artists and innovators alike. One way to get their creative flow back is to have mentors or explore other works for inspiration.
CIITzens gained such a boost in their quest for artistic success as they met the acclaimed visual development artist and production designer Armand Serrano whose creative feats have entertained audiences across the world. Armand visited CIIT College of Arts and Technology last September 18 to talk about “The Art of an Icon: Visual Storytelling” as part of the ICON Manila School Caravan.

Makings of an Icon
Armand’s passion for animation led him to make features for major studios, including Walt Disney Animation Studios, Marvel Studios, Sony Pictures Animation, and more.

Among the many beloved films and series that Armand helped bring to life are X-Men, the Fantastic Four television series, Mulan, Tarzan, Big Hero 6, and Hotel Transylvania. He also recently worked on Marvel’s What If…? (Season 1) and Apple TV+’s WondLa and has a biblical animated film titled Jesus set to be shown in 2025.
The creative projects that Armand has accomplished and shared with CIITzens serve as inspiration, showing them that they too can achieve remarkable things with their artistic talents.
Learn from Leaders
Armand invited CIITzens to attend this year’s ICON Manila, giving them another opportunity to find more artistic inspirations. Founded by Armand and his wife Bing Serrano, ICON Manila annually brings together students and professionals in entertainment design, offering them a platform for gaining valuable insights from industry leaders.

Lessons from thriving industry professionals are central at CIIT. Through experienced mentorship in a state-of-the-art environment, we guide artists, animators, illustrators, and designers in their journey toward becoming industry-ready creatives.
