From March 20 to 25, 2023, CIIT hosted its highly anticipated Sportsfest, uniting students, faculty, and staff in a thrilling display of competition and camaraderie. This event featured an array of exhilarating activities and competitions held at two distinct venues: the Quezon City Circle Covered Court for the initial three days and the Interweave Building for the remaining three days.
The Sportsfest kicked off with an early morning registration and race bib distribution for the Fun Run. Before the race began, participants were gathered for a lively stretching routine led by the energetic Ms. Tin Dipalac, our Physical Education Coordinator and the Overall Chair for this event. There was even a drum and lyre band that added more excitement to the participants through their upbeat music as Mr. Juco Rivera and Ms. Angelica Samson led the countdown. Meanwhile, the medical team stood ready, ensuring the well-being of all participants. After the fun run, a vibrant parade of colors brought the scene to life as students united, forming five spirited teams: Red Wolves, Blue Lions, Orange Racoons, Green Vipers, and Yellow Stags. Everyone broke into festive cheering as each team was called on by the host. This was followed by the Chant competition with Blue Lions as the emerging winner. Ball games commenced after lunch and concluded around 5:20 pm, leaving participants eagerly awaiting the next set of events.
The second day of the Sportsfest began with an invigorating Zumba Dance session led by Coach Lito, an instructor from Anytime Fitness, one of our event sponsors. Students representing various team colors enthusiastically joined the dance, along with some faculty and staff members. The energetic atmosphere set the tone for the day’s activities. To add to the thrill, the Anytime Fitness sponsor generously distributed freebies to those who joined the Zumba session. The event organizers also rewarded early birds with a 7-day gym pass, courtesy of the sponsor. Ball games started shortly after.
The third day was kicked off with a Zumba session followed by various Palarong Pinoy such as Patintero and Tug of War, which unleashed the competitive side of the participants and was notably one of the most fun parts of the day. Faculty and staff joined in with the students proudly bearing their team colors. Championship games for both volleyball and basketball started in the afternoon and were followed by the awarding ceremony for ball games.
On the succeeding days, activities were held at the Interweave building. Early birds were treated to a complimentary breakfast sandwich and biscuits, with additional prizes from the sponsors. Esports took place in assigned rooms according to team colors, board games were held in the library left wing, and table tennis took place in the gym. Championship games for the said sports were held on the fifth and sixth. The awards ceremony was held on the last day of the Sportsfest, complete with a performance by the Spade Student Organization and with Blue Lions as the overall champion with Green Vipers and Red Wolves as the 1st and 2nd runner up respectively.
The employees’ participation and joy were evident throughout the Sportsfest, making the event even more enjoyable for everyone involved. Their enthusiasm and dedication to making the event a success were inspiring and showed the true spirit of CIIT as a community. Overall, the Sportsfest was a fantastic opportunity for employees to come together, have fun, and showcase their skills and passion for sports.
