Promoting Sustainability through Proper E-Waste Disposal
Held at the Melchor Hall, UP College of Engineering, the event focused on the collection, verification, and turnover of e-waste from CIIT to UP Diliman’s Project E-Waste storage area. This initiative, which aligns with CIIT’s broader sustainability goals, aims to reduce the harmful environmental effects caused by improper disposal of electronic devices, such as soil and water contamination.
The partnership with UP Diliman further solidifies the importance of environmental responsibility and the need to adopt proper e-waste recycling. By facilitating the turnover of obsolete electronics, CIIT is actively contributing to a cleaner, healthier environment while raising awareness on the importance of responsible e-waste disposal within its community.

Key Highlights of the Event
The event featured several important activities, including the collaborative efforts between CIIT’s Facilities, IT, and Finance departments to gather and verify e-waste. The turnover process included the following key steps:
- E-Waste Collection in Partnership with Facilities and IT: The Facilities and IT departments worked together to gather all eligible electronic waste from the CIIT campus, ensuring that all items were properly sorted and accounted for.
- Verification of E-Waste by the Finance Department: The Finance Department played a critical role by reviewing and verifying e-waste assets, ensuring proper identification and documentation for turnover.
- Approval of the Project E-Waste Memorandum of Agreement (MOA): The official Memorandum of Agreement between CIIT College of Arts and Technology and UP Diliman was reviewed and approved, reinforcing the ongoing partnership for sustainable e-waste disposal.
- Transfer and Storage: The e-waste was then carefully transferred from the IT department to the Facilities van, which was tasked with transporting the items to UP Diliman’s storage area for processing.
Formal Turnover to UP Diliman: Once the e-waste was securely delivered to UP Diliman, the items were formally accepted and documented, ensuring that they would be properly recycled in line with Project E-Waste’s goals.
A Collaborative Effort for a Greener Tomorrow
The event highlighted the power of collaboration, as key departments within CIIT—Facilities, IT, and Finance—worked seamlessly together to execute the turnover. Additionally, UP Diliman’s representative from the Project E-Waste team helped facilitate the process, ensuring that all items were appropriately handled.
The success of this turnover is not only a testament to the effectiveness of teamwork but also to the CIIT community’s growing awareness and commitment to sustainability. With this initiative, CIIT has set the stage for future projects that will continue to support environmental conservation and sustainable practices.
Through such initiatives, CIIT not only makes a direct impact on environmental conservation but also educates its students and staff on the importance of responsible e-waste disposal. The Project E-Waste Turnover is a valuable step in the institution’s journey towards a greener, more sustainable future.
Stay tuned for more updates on CIIT’s sustainability programs and the next phase of the e-waste turnover project. Together, we can continue to make a positive difference in preserving the environment for future generations.
