CIIT Develops Intramuros Mobile App in Less Than 100 Hours, Bridging Culture and Technology

CIIT College of Arts and Technology partnered with the Intramuros Administration and DOST-NCR to launch the Intramuros Mobile App—a virtual tour experience designed and developed by CIITzens in less than 100 hours.

On June 11, CIIT College of Arts and Technology marked a major milestone in digital innovation and cultural preservation with the launch of the Intramuros Mobile App. The project, developed in partnership with the Intramuros Administration (IA) and the Department of Science and Technology – National Capital Region (DOST-NCR), was officially introduced alongside a formal signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) among the three institutions.

Present during the launch and MOA signing were key leaders from each organization, including Secretary Renato Solidum Jr. of the Department of Science and Technology, DOST-NCR Regional Director Engr. Romelen T. Tresvalles, Intramuros Administration Administrator Atty. Joan M. Padilla, CIIT College of Arts and Technology’s Program Head of Technology Mr. Rizaldy Rapsing, and Department of Tourism Undersecretary Ferdinand C. Jumapao. Their presence underscored the significance of this collaboration and the potential of partnerships in strengthening the country’s cultural and technological future.

The app, accessible at app.intramuros.gov.ph, allows users to virtually explore the historic Walled City of Intramuros without requiring any downloads. Designed with accessibility in mind, it promotes cultural awareness, smart tourism, and a seamless digital experience that brings Philippine history closer to today’s audiences.

What sets this initiative apart is the remarkable speed and efficiency of its development. In just 80–100 hours, CIIT’s Process and Systems Integration (PSI) team successfully built and launched the platform—an achievement that surprised and impressed the Intramuros Administration. The team was led by Cha Lopez, who handled the backend, frontend, and data structure development; Khyla Sabiniano, who worked on UI/UX design and system integration; and Dhanielle Mamaril, a CIIT BSCS student intern who managed data migration. EQ Zurbano is also supporting the next phase of development, contributing to data structuring and integration.

This rapid output was made possible through the use of low-code technologies—tools that are secure, quick to deploy, and highly scalable. These technologies, integrated into CIIT’s curriculum, ensure that students are equipped with the real-world, future-ready skills needed to succeed in today’s innovation-driven industries.

The project reflects a shared commitment to harnessing emerging technologies for meaningful impact. Features like interactive content and data-driven mapping pave the way for future enhancements, including augmented reality and immersive storytelling—bringing new life to cultural exploration. This direction also aligns with DOST’s vision of using science, technology, and innovation to honor the past, serve the present, and shape the future.

The Intramuros Mobile App stands as a powerful example of what’s possible when education, innovation, and cultural stewardship come together. It also highlights CIIT’s mission to empower students to become leaders, creators, and contributors in a rapidly evolving digital world.
