Best Game Development School: A List of Proudly Pinoy-Made Games

Next to India and South Korea, the Philippines is now the third largest source of game and animation outsourcing on the planet. Thanks to the best game development schools and firms in our country, many companies consider the Philippines as the greatest talent source of game app developers in the world.

To prove this, we’ve gathered five of the most award winning and successful Filipino games and apps in the country. If you are looking to enjoy and feel proud at the same time, here are some Pinoy-made games you can download and play during your free time.

1. Sago Express by Anino Games

Anino Games’ “Sago Express” is a time-controlled puzzle game that involves finding and eliminating as many sago patterns from the board. With every successful find, you gain extra time to keep on searching, and coins to help you purchase power-ups to help you advance your score.

2. SIPA: Street Kick! by Team O.P.S. Inc.

Tagged as the first Pinoy-themed street game, SIPA is a fast and fun mobile app that will put you in control of a little boy named Butchukoy. To earn points, you will need to kick or hit the shuttlecock and pick up litters on the streets. More than offering fun and excitement, the game aims to promote the Filipino culture, nationalism, and heritage to the world.

3. Manila Rush by Anino Games

This mobile game app is Anino Playlab’s (formerly Anino Games) first independently published game. A Pinoy version of “Temple Run,” it lets you run through the streets of Metro Manila, jump over cars, swerve buses and jeepneys, and avoid taxis while collecting coins along the way. The game features a cartoonish rendition of EDSA, complete with road repairs and blockages, and even an MRT running at the side.

4. Streetfood Tycoon by Kuyi Mobile

This game won the Cultural Award and the Best Handheld/Mobile Game at the 2013’s GDAP Game Development Festival. Regarded as the number one strategy game in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, and Asia, “Streetfood Tycoon” is played by building your own food cart, growing your venture, and selling a variety of street foods.

5. Pretentious Game by Bulkypix (developed by Bari Silvestre)

Pretentious Game is an award-winning game created by Keybol Games CEO and Filipino game developer Bari Silvestre. The game, which features the undying love of a blue cube to a pink cube, bagged the Director’s Choice Award at Casual Connect San Francisco in 2013. The game pushes the player to “read between the lines” and succeed in every stage by solving and grasping the underlying meanings of the sentences.
